All Grown Up!
Here are photos of Bailey at home, starting her new life and growing up with Terry and Holly. Bailey completed her obedience training classes and then later completed her Therapy Dog Training. Bailey knows many commands (see her list) and works from Flash Cards!!
Update from Terry and Holly: Just wanted to let you see Bailey’s Intermediate graduation picture. She did very well. She is taking off 3 weeks and then starting her advanced class. She did the best in her class and she was by far the youngest in the class. Hope you all have a good week.
Hi Linda - Hope you area all doing well. Just wanted to send you a few new pics of Bailey. She just had her 1st all body groom. She is still in school and enjoying it. We will get her certified to visit hospitals and retirement homes for visiting. She loves people so much. I can’t believe how much she changed since she was spayed. She has not had one potty accident and she just seems to have grown up since then. We both love her to death and she seems to really love life. She is just so happy. That is what everyone says when they meet her. We could not be happier with her. Thanks again for helping me choose her. I have given out your name and web site many many times. Yes she has us wrapped around her little toe. Just to say also that it is good that you recommend training. It has helped her so much. When we got her groomed the groomer said that she was the most behaved dog at 7 months old she had ever groomed. She watched her grind her toenails and did not mind anything except the air in her face from the dryer. Feel free to use anything I send you on your website. Have a good week. Bailey is in her Advanced 3 training class. She is so smart. Here is the list of what she can do now. More to come I am sure but in just 14 months she has learned so much.
There are thousands of things we particularly like about Bailey. She is very smart and was pretty easy to train. Start early. Potty training took a few weeks with a puppy apartment. We love it. She will go out to potty but if the weather is not good or it is too late she is happy to use the pad. When we visit people and the weather is bad we just put down a pad and show it to her and she will use it if she needs to. She has never damaged any furniture, shoes or anything she should not. This is the owners fault if it happens. She really likes ELK antlers. They last a long time. She must have things to chew on. I make sure to find healthy things for her to chew on for her teeth.
Her hair is like short fur with hair on top. The groomer says you can't use high pressure air to dry her or you will just blow knots in her. We comb her hair maybe three to four times a week. She will just get up in our lap to get combed. She loves water. She loves to swim and when it is bath time I just say let's take a bath and she will jump in the tub.
The best punishment for her is just to put her a few feet away from you and don't allow her to get to you. We use a child's gate between the doors. This is the only discipline we have needed to do. As far as the training goes make sure to only use one that trains for love and not for money. We used a gentle leader for proper walking without pulling. This was the greatest thing and did not take long to get her proper training. She also really seems to learn well with trust. The more trust I had in her and allowed her to do things the better she did. No matter how excited she is I can say to sit at the door and open it and she will stay there until I release her. She took the Therapy dog test one time and passed with ease. I took her to meet many dogs and cats and people just after she had all of her shots and that was a good thing. I also take her to the vet for happy visits and she don't mind going to the vet. We got her spayed at 5 months and that was a great thing.
If anything was to happen to Bailey, I would call Linda and get another one as soon as possible. She doesn't shed any. I will attach some pics of her and one of her brother that lives in NY. Her color changed a lot. She was dark like her brother at 1st and now she is almost all cream color so they can change in color pretty much. Everyone that meets Bailey wants her. We visit family 400 miles away and she sleeps the whole trip. No problems in the car at all.
