Doggie Treat Recipes from Sherry Jones

The boys eat anything I make so I am not a good judge of the best treat. : ) Anyway, here are the latest ones I have made. I like to roll my dough very thin. Others may choose to make a thicker cookie. I just want mine crispy to make sure all ingredients are fully cooked so I can store them in a jar on the fridge. (I don't think any of these are low calorie.)

Peanut Butter Molasses Treats

Mix together dry ingredients:
3 cups soy flour
1 cup cornmeal
1 cup dry oats
Add mixed wet ingredients and cut in with a fork until blended:
1/2 cup crunchy peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup molasses
Add enough water to form into a ball (about 1/4-1/2 cup)
Roll out 1/4 inch thick. I use corn meal sprinkled on wax paper.
Bake 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until lightly browned.

Cottage Cheese Snacks

Mix together dry ingredients:
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup corn meal
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup powdered milk or 1/2 cup powdered soy milk
Add mixed wet ingredients and cut in with a fork until blended:
1 cup small curd cottage cheese
1 egg beaten
1/4 cup olive oil
Add enough water to form into a ball (about 1/4 cup).
Roll out 1/4 inch thick on wax paper sprinkled with sesame seeds.
Bake 300 degrees for 45-50 minutes or until lightly browned and totally crunchy.

Bacon Delight Treats

Mix together dry ingredients:
3 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup dry grits (soy or corn).
1/2 cup powdered milk or powdered soy milk.
4 beef bouillon cubes crushed
2 tablespoons wheat germ
Add mixed wet ingredients and cut in with a fork until blended:
6 tablespoons bacon grease (or other meat drippings)
1 egg beaten
Add enough water to form into a ball (about 1/2 cup).
Roll out 1/4 inch thick on wax paper sprinkled with flour or corn meal.
Bake 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until lightly browned.

Cut into squares or rectangles or use a cookie cutter for all treats.

I experiment all the time using different ingredients (what ever I have on hand in the cupboard). Seeds: sesame seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, celery seeds, pumpkin seeds, etc. Dry Ingredients: rye flour, soy flour, whole wheat flour, oatmeal, cornmeal, grits, etc.

Nutrition Boosters: wheat germ, garlic, olive oil, peanut butter, eggs, dry milks, bouillon's, molasses, cottage cheese, grated cheese, grated carrots, grated zucchini, parmesan cheese (I use a small amount of Veggie parmesan made with soy), dried parsley, dried mint, etc.
